Lydia Schiller, born in 1988 in Kempten, a small city in the very south of Germany, discovered her love for singing at a very early age. She sang in various choirs and vocal ensembles during her highschool time whilst also playing recorder from the age of 5 and picked up the trombone when she was 12 years old. Through playing the trombone she got in touch with big band music and finally combined her passion for jazz and singing when she joined the Bavarian Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2007.
Lydia studied in Würzburg, Germany at the Hochschule für Musik with Reinette van Zijtveld-Lustig and Tine Schneider and obtained her diploma in Jazz Voice in the summer of 2012.
During her time in Würzburg she recorded albums with the Bavarian Youth Jazz Orchestra and with her trio ‘lucid’, with which she won multiple prices at jazz competitions all over Germany and went on a CD-release tour in the fall of 2011.
After finishing her studies in 2012, Ms Schiller, who is also a member of the German Youth Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO), gained a DAAD scholarship that allowed her to continue her studies in the Master’s Program at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, studying with Peter Eldridge, Darmon Meader and Theo Bleckmann.
Since her return to Germany in 2013 Lydia Schiller now lives and works in Cologne. She can be heard with various projects of her own, like her trio ‘lucid’, the ‘Lydia Schiller Quartet’ and the duo ‘Feith & Schiller’. She is also a sought-after sidewoman for bands such as the Robert Haas Ensemble and the hip hop band ‘pecco billo’
